Internet Explorer 6 is old; almost nine years old, and trust me, in software IT, nine years is old.

A long time ago, a movement to kill Internet Explorer 6 was born: lots of websites came out with special warnings for this web browser version. The aim is to get rid of it because it produces lots of pain for web developer to adapt their own website to this web browser.
I unfortunately think that these movements are most of the time useless. Here is why.

When going to see friends or family, I sometimes need a computer to see or show something; the result on their Microsoft Windows XP is often the same: they still have Internet Explorer 6 installed; I often experienced this while there was a pop up, at each startup, in the bottom of the screen approximatively saying "Hey since months, I have been telling you that there are updates to do, just click here". Lots of users don't care about updates. I came in this situation so many times, even with some IT people that I made the conclusion that even with lots of warnings the user will not necessary do the updates. It will probably be done when he changes his computer and upgrades to a new operating system.

Perhaps Google made a good choice to automatically update their web browser, and updates should probably be installed by default.
