The longest day of the year

You probably know that the summer solstice normally occurs on 21st June. But did you know that in 2008 the exact solstice will occur at 23:59 UT on 20th June?
In fact this is the first time since 1896 that it hasn't occurred on 20st June, and since 1975 it hasn't occurred on 21st June[1].

So this will be the longest day, specially in north countries where it's difficult to find dark night ;-) A good occasion to run a nightly race, called St. Hansgaloppen for about 14,5 km in the nature; sounds great.

Notes

[1] In 1975 it was on 22th June.

New Firefox javascript engine

I don't know if you already had the occasion to test the new Firefox 3.0, but I was startled by the speed of the new javascript engine.
Before this latter version, I found Internet Explorer 7.0 javascript engine more quick than the one from Firefox 2.0, but now the trend is totally reversed. You can now really enjoy full javascript website like Gmail; it is so fast to navigate in it.

Good point for Firefox.

Nudes Machine

Some of you are perhaps fans of Radiohead. And perhaps have you heard the last album In Rainbows[1]. Some time ago they launched a remix contest of Nude song, a song from this album. According to one participant, the task wasn't so easy:

This was quite a difficult task for all the electronic musicians that entered, as Nude is in 6/8 timing, and 63bpm. Most music that's played in clubs is around 120bpm and usually 4/4 timing. It's near impossible to mix a waltz beat into a DJ set.

But the result from this latter is really impressive and original. Just enjoy it here.

Through Prendre un café.

Notes

[1] Otherwise you can hear it here.

Believe me or not

Believe me or not, but I've found french cheese!

What we are going to buy today? hm,hm, what's that? cheese? Doesn't seem to be plastic cheese, errr, I mean, norwegian cheese...

"Fromage crémeux, Chaumes, ''Saint Albray, ..."

What's that? Doesn't seem to be norwegian words... I can not believe it, french cheese!

Using Qt4 with Microsoft Visual Studio

Since a few weeks, I really have to show you a nice tool to make Qt programing easier with Microsoft Visual Studio.
I've named autoBuild, a nice tool which integrated Qt compilation inside Microsoft Visual Studio. It could replace the actual commercial solution sold by TrollTech but I don't know the differences between the two solutions, because the one from TrollTech is just available in commercial pack, and I never bought the latter one.

You will find the howto to install it on the Qt Center wiki.

Freeze Oslo

That's it, I have assisted to my first freeze party today.
I knew theses type of events, because there are a lot of groups about this subject on internet. The aim isn't really complicated: just stop moving during five minutes to show how the world is running faster and faster. You could find a lot of examples videos everywhere, like this one, one of the most famous.

It's very surprising when you arrive in Oslo central Station and almost everyone isn't moving. Very funny and original to see; some guys tried to be creative with funny posture. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera this time :-( But memories are in my head.
