Particularity of Norway - Vacation

Starting from today I will try to write some entries about some Norway particularities, which could be surprising or funny for a French.

Today, I'll talk about vacation.

July is the warmer month is Norway. That's why most of companies are almost empty in July; sometimes closed. To sum up, July in Norway is what August is to France.
Moreover, I was surprised to meet so many Norwegian leaving Norway for vacation. In general, citizens of Norway travel a lot, or at least more than French. That's why, like Paris in August, Oslo seems to be empty in July. In Bergen it was even more striking, as the city seemed to be owned by tourists. Perhaps, you can even feel in France when you meet a ferry full of French, along shops which accept euros; fortunately, we didn't stay more than half a day in Bergen :-)

The Kongsvinger marathon 2008 is now finished. It was really a great race for me, because of its new landscapes, new tracks and new feelings.
Most of the race was through woods: the weather was perfect for running, cloudy; part of the track was a little dangerous, because of the rainy weather before the race and the rough path. At the beginning it was really not possible to contemplate the landscape and it was better to take care where you put your foots to avoid the roots and stones. A few ways were so muddy that there were narrow planks to go through.

At the end, I was pleased to see I've broken my record in a half marathon: 1:41:54. Really good improvement, especially compared to my first one in France which was almost totally flat. But I know it's difficult to compare results between different races because of the longitudinal profile, the weather, etc... Special thanks to one of my friends who motivated me during 14 km as in a team. It really helped me.

Today it is the Kongsvinger marathon. As last time, I will run the half marathon.

Here is the profile:

.

Compared to the last one, it's approximately 50 meters higher. So it's a little bit harder, but doable.
Moreover, I will test new shoes I've recently bought in a specialized running store; I hope to have good feelings, or at least better feelings than my very old previous shoes...

Back from such a nice travel through Norway; awesome, wonderful, indescribable; I really don't have enough words to describe it. I don't exaggerate. The nice weather was a good chance too.
Back to work, everyone is comparing their suntan, telling their travel, telling stories.
Back to projects, some important deadlines are waiting for me; enough to do until the end of my internship.
Back to running; there is a lot of work on this side too, to be able to achieve the final aim ;-)

Here one of the multiples different landscapes I could see last week... Sweet dreams...

After some days of hard work, vacation is welcome. I will use this next week to cross Norway from east to west (until Bergen in fact). Another good occasion to discover new places, new landscapes, and of course a little bit more about the Norwegian culture.
Theses holidays are special for me, because these are my first paid leave.

Sounds great.

The transportation seems to be the same (perhaps worse!) as Paris: when the train has just stopped, everyone is staying in front of the door, ready to go on, even when the aforementioned train is full of people who wants to get out.
One more thing which reminds you, we are in an individualism world...
